Fire Escape Equipment
Fire escape equipment is designed and manufactured with safe removal of personnel in the unfortunate event of a fire. A fire is a big emergency and can cause a lot of fear amongst people especially when the correct Fire escape equipment is difficult to identify to locate. Below is a list of crucial equipment that should be considered for the event if a fire emergency:
- Fire air horns or Loud hailers - Fire Air horns are to be used to attract attention in the event of an emergency fire situation. They are handheld and ideal for use on building sites. The fire air horns can be heard from up to 1500m away. Loud hailers, sometimes referred to as a megaphone and can also be used to attract attention in the event of an emergency fire situation. Loud hailers are handheld and project the user's voice up to 1500m by using a built I microphone with an integrated siren which can also be used in an emergency situation.
- Emergency Escape hammer - Effective emergency escape tool used most commonly in coaches and buses. Its tough double pointed hammerhead is used for breaking windows in an emergency. At the other end of the handle is a concealed knife for cutting through seatbelts if required. Whilst these hammers are commonly found in buses and coaches they are well worth having in a car or vehicle.
- Fire escape ladder – A fire escape ladder is a crucial feature of any fire emergency equipment. In an emergency, the hooks of the fire escape ladder are placed over the window sill and the chain is lowered out of the window. The fire escape ladder is then ready for your descent. Distance pieces fixed on a number of rungs will keep your feet safely off the wall. The fire escape ladder deploys tangle-free and includes 5 pairs of distance pieces for the 14 ft ladders, or 8 pairs for the 23 foot and 15 pairs for the 45 foot ladders. The distance pieces are screwed on by the customer in positions best suited for the building in question.
Fire escape equipment must be stored in an easily identifiable and accessible location. A fire escape equipment can be used to ensure this as it is easily identifiable as a green cabinet looking similar in structure to a fire extinguisher cabinet. Signage is also attached which makes personnel knowledgeable as to the use of the cabinet.
